Zipco Environmental Services, Inc. began its eminent career as a restaurant service company in Philadelphia, PA in the early 1980's, servicing and installing refrigeration systems. Some of the "Renaissance Restaurant” owners already had private or restaurant wine collections that were not being stored properly. We were brought in to solve their wine storage problems.
Our first major project dealing with wine storage was in 1982 with the installation of the wine cellar at Restaurant Déjà Vu in Philadelphia, PA. After this cellar, we continued to design and install wine storage systems for increasingly more residences and restaurants, until in 1990 when the design and installation of wine storage systems became the mainstay of ZipCo Environmental Services, Inc.
In recent years, ZipCo has completed over 200 major wine storage projects per year in private homes, restaurants and businesses. The average cellar is approximately 10' x 10' and holds 1500 bottles. We design systems to fit any size room or closet, complete with woodworkers, masons, and other craftspeople to provide custom finishes.
ZipCo has done work for wholesale wine companies designing or consulting on wine storage conditions for warehousing wine. We also work with architects and national catalog companies, locally and nationally, designing cellars for resale. Our broad reputation has enabled us to create exciting and unusual projects nationwide.
We are the wine cellar designer of choice for The Moore Brother's Wine store in Pennsauken , NJ . Quoting Greg Moore, “He has much more experience than some of these contractors who take a cookie cutter approach to the work. I think wine collectors perceive a real value on that experience”. (Phila. Business Journal – May 02). Nationally known wine consultant Marnie Old calls ZipCo “The best in the area if not the country when it comes to designing & building cellars.”
In the past, ZipCo has been featured on the Fox Network's morning show to display and discuss proper wine storage. ZipCo has been written up in many newspapers and periodicals ( Philadelphia Inquirer, Robb Report, Market Watch, Wine X , Philadelphia Magazine, Main Line Times, Philadelphia Business Journal , Philadelphia Magazine's Home & Garden , Bucks Magazine) regarding the design of wine cellars and highlighting some of our clients. The president of our company has spoken at The Boston Wine Expo and The Philadelphia Wine Festival (among others) on the how & whys of wine storage. We are members of the American Wine Storage Association, the national organization of wine cellar designers & constructors. Companies are nominated & voted in as members.
